Aging: It's Nothing But A Conga Line

Embracing the Rhythms of Life and Finding Beauty in Aging

I can’t hear, say, or write the word "Conga" without eliciting a vision of the amazing Gloria Estefan. I digress. So, how does a Conga line relate to aging? Well, as the Conga drums of life keep their rhythm, I notice the graceful emergence of wrinkles. Each one tells a story etched onto the canvas of my experiences. This isn't just about aging; it's about the vibrant dance of life and the wisdom it brings.

After 40, Many of Us Start Thinking About Aging

Today, I think of aging as joining a never-ending conga line, each step celebrating the journey of a life well-lived. But why write about it? Because, mis amores, the dance of life is a universal language, and within its steps, we find shared experiences, joys, and challenges. We'll sway to the rhythm together, reflecting on the beauty of embracing time and becoming unapologetically ourselves. So, let's dive into the grand dance of life, where every wrinkle is a note in our unique conga moves. A testament to a life well-lived (mostly), and leaving a trail of memories across the dance floor of time.

Challenges

We all experience challenges, but a great life doesn’t exist without a few missteps in the Conga line of life! The key is to sway with the rhythm, even when the beat gets tricky, because, in reality, no one is keeping score. Embracing the march of time means cherishing the blossoming wisdom and being grateful for each new day. By now, you've probably figured out what keeps you spirited; for me, it's the beach, a mid-day cafecito, gathering with friends and family, a Friday night dance-off at home, and an occasional cigar.

Aging is a privilege and not afforded to all. So, I toast, “To the sunrises I've seen and the sunsets I've yet to see. With a heart full of gratitude, let’s continue to perfect our Conga moves in the grand dance of life.”
